Library Participates in AUM Writes! Panel Discussion

The AUM community recognized the National Day on Writing with AUM Writes!, an all-day event celebrating writing in all forms and meant to bring attention to the importance of composition for personal and professional improvement. The Library participated in a panel discussion focused on promoting its electronic resources to the AUM community which will help students and faculty from all disciplines in conducting research. Barbara Hightower discussed our Multi-Search service, which allows users to search our online catalog and many of our other electronic resources and databases simultaneously. And Jason Kneip talked about eBooks available for viewing and checkout through our EBSCO eBooks Collection. The links below point to guides created by our librarians to help learn more about these services discussed during the panel.

Library Floors 3-6

Carts full of books are rolling along the floors of the AUM Library as we shift the collection on floors 3-6. To make this process safe for you, our patrons, and do it as quickly as possible, we are closing the floors to our patrons until June 4. The doors to the floors will be locked as Library personnel work to shift the collection.
If you need books from any of the floors, please request them at the first floor circulation desk. Members of the Library staff will find the books for you and bring them to the circulation desk. Please allow additional time for us to locate items that may be in the process of being moved.
If you are looking for a quiet place to study, the third floor government documents area is a nice quiet spot. The first and second floors will also be open as usual and reference and interlibrary loan services will be available.
Thanks for your cooperation.

Limited Library Services

Library services will be limited during the week of May 14-18. The building will be open, but reference and interlibrary loan services will be unavailable. We will be shifting books on floors 3-6 and processing books for remote storage which will make some parts of the collection temporarily unavailable. Borrowed materials may be returned at the Circulation Desk on the first floor or by using the drop-off box near the parking area located in front of the Ida Belle Young Library Tower. We thank you for your patience during this time and look forward to serving you when we resume normal operations May 21.

Free Free Free Books!

Come by the first floor entrance to the Library (Administration side) and browse the table of free books. All these books need a good home and a purpose. The books have library labels and are stamped “Withdrawn”. Different books will be added each day so check often and build your home library.

New and Trial Databases

We’ve added four new databases to the Library’s webpages and have trials in place for an additional three databases!
First, the databases we have recently subscribed to:
ProQuest Dissertations & Theses A & I, which features indexing and abstracts of dissertations and theses from around the world, going as far back as 1861.
Web Of Science and Journal Citation Reports, both products of the Institute for Scientific Information, provide journal and article citation metrics, as well as providing both broad overviews of journal and article usage and journal-impact rankings for individual journals.
Biological Abstracts is an online version of the printed work of the same title, providing an index index to the world’s life sciences journal literature, with topics ranging from botany to microbiology to pharmacology. Biological Abstracts covers from 1926 to present.
And now, on to the trial databases!
We have three databases currently under trial, available from the AUM Libguides “Trial & Test Databases” page. These databases are:
Criminal Justice Abstracts with Full Text, which provides more than 200,000 records selected from the most important sources within the discipline, and covers a range of topics in criminal justice. This trial expires March 31, 2012.
Medline Complete which provides authoritative medical information on medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, pre-clinical sciences, and much more. This trial expires March 31, 2012.
ProQuest Digital Microfilm includes several newspapers from around the united States, including the New York Times. Coverage in this database goes back to 2008. This database trial ends March 14, 2012.
Thank you for your time, and enjoy the new materials!
