Update on Library Barcodes

Beginning Summer Semester, 2008, AUM Library patrons (faculty, staff, and students) will begin using their new Senator ID based barcodes. This new barcode replaces the old, SSN-based barcodes, and will be used for logging in to the library's databases, for placing requests through the online catalog, and for checking out and renewing items.

These barcodes consist of a 20, followed by the Senator ID, followed by a zero (0) at the end. If you do not know your Senator ID, please go here to look up your Senator ID (please note: this page is Maintained by IT Services. If you encounter problems with looking up your Senator ID, please contact the IT Services HelpDesk at 244-3500).

If you have any questions about the library barcode changeover or need help logging in to the library's materials, please feel free to contact Tim Bailey at tbailey1@aum.edu for more information.

Welcome to Our Blog!

Welcome to the AUM Library's newest method of communication - the Aumnicat Blog. The Blog (an abridgment of the phrase 'web log') is a website that is frequently updated. In our case, it will be used to distribute information about the library, library related events, collections information (such as the new books list), and other types of information that we hope will keep you informed on library activities and issues.

As always, if you have questions or comments about the Blog or other library issues, please contact me by e-mail (rbest@aum.edu).

Talk Like a Pirate Day!

Avast, me hearties! ‘Tis Talk Like a Pirate Day! Cast yer deadlights on tha official website http://www.talklikeapirate.com ta larn how land lubbers John “Ol’ Chumbucket” Baur and Mark “Cap’n Slappy” Summers came up with this day o’ merry-makin’. Thar’s a primer on pirate-talk fer would-be pirates along with other pirate-related swag.

If yer huntin’ fer more swashbucklin’ booty, check out A Pirate’s Who’s Who by Philip Cosse (located in Reference, call number G535 .G6). This volume includes short biographies of famous pirates such as Henry Morgan, Edward Teach and Anne Bonney. It also has biographies of lesser known pirates such as Major Stede Bonnet, who was “more to be pitied than blamed” for becoming a pirate, because his “mind had become unbalanced owing to the unbridled nagging of Mrs. Bonnet.”

Summer of Reading

Calling All Readers!

Have you ever finished a book and thought, I bet my friends would enjoy this one! Well, how about sharing your book recommendations with your AUM friends?

Join us in a Summer of Reading and make recommendations of books you or your family members have enjoyed. Send your recommendations to us and we will post them on our blog or as an elevator flyer. The books can be anything you have enjoyed, children’s books included, and they don’t have to be part of our collection. If you’d like to include a short review of the book we will be delighted to include that, otherwise we would like to add, “This book recommended by ….”
Check our blog for reading recommendations and the latest books added to the Browsing Collection. Please send your recommendations to Lucy Farrow or Samantha McNeilly and share the delights of a good book with your AUM friends!
