Circulation Regulations:
AUM & Auburn Faculty/Staff
- Faculty and staff must present a valid AUM ID card or AU photo ID in order to
check out materials. The ID card must be presented to the Circulation staff at the time of
checkout. Adjunct faculty will have borrowing privileges for the current semester in which
they are teaching.
- Faculty and staff are responsible for materials charged to their names. A lost ID card or
library card should be reported to Circulation immediately to ensure that unauthorized
borrowing can be blocked.
- Faculty and staff may borrow up to 100 items at a time for up
to 90 days. Once the 100-item limit is reached, the patron will be blocked from checking out
additional items. Temporary AUM employees are allowed up to ten items.
- Spouses and children of AUM faculty and staff MAY NOT check out library materials on the
ID card of the spouse or parent. Cards valid for twelve months are available to the spouse
of the faculty/staff member. Spouses are held responsible for materials checked out on
their cards.

- After the maximum fine per item has been reached, the faculty or staff member will be billed for the
replacement cost of the item plus a $15.00 processing fee. If the material is not returned,
the faculty or staff member must pay the replacement costs and a $15.00 non-refundable processing fee.
- Faculty and staff with five or more overdue items or fines totaling $5.00 or more will be
blocked from checking out additional items until the items are returned and the fines are
paid.
- Overdue notices will be sent to faculty and staff two to four weekdays after material is due.
No overdue fines will be assessed if items are returned within four days after the due date.
However, on the fifth day, the faculty/staff member must pay the accumulated fines for all five days.
Notices will be sent to the faculty or staff member's campus address. Faculty and staff are
responsible for returning materials on time. Failure to receive a notice does not relieve
the borrower of responsibility for overdue fines.
- Faculty and staff can renew items either online, through the Library’s web page,
by phone, or at the Circulation desk. Items can only be renewed on or before the due date.
Overdue items will have to be returned to the Circulation desk and any fines paid before
the item can be renewed. Once an item has been renewed twice, the item must be returned
to the Circulation desk before it can be checked out again. Items that have holds placed
for another patron cannot be renewed.
- Items in circulation for at least seven days may be recalled; the user has seven days
in which to return the item before fines begin to accrue.
- Faculty and staff who leave the employment of the University must pay all financial obligations and
obtain written library clearance before receiving their final paycheck. If accounts are not
cleared, ex-faculty/staff accounts will be turned over to a collection agency.
- Questions about overdue fines or other charges should be discussed with a member of
the Circulation staff or the Circulation Supervisor.
AUM Library is accessible to all persons. Patrons with a disability which might
necessitate special services or assistance in their use of the Library should inform a
member of the Library staff and/or contact the Center for Special Services at (334) 244-3468.
