Policies for AUM and Auburn Students

  • AUM and Auburn students must have a valid AUM ID card or AU photo ID in order to check out materials. The ID card must be presented to the Access Services staff at the time of checkout. All students must be currently enrolled and in good standing with the AUM, AU, and consortium libraries.

  • Students are responsible for materials charged to their names. A lost ID card or library card should be reported to Access Services immediately to ensure that unauthorized borrowing can be blocked.

  • AUM and Auburn graduate students may have up to 100 items checked out at a time. Undergraduates may have up to 50 items at a time. Once this limit is reached, the student will be blocked from checking out additional materials.

  • Periodicals, newspapers, maps, Reference materials, and microforms do not circulate.

  • Loan periods

Books (Graduates) - 90 days
Books (Undergraduates) - 28 days
Videos - 14 days
Audio - 14 days

  • If materials are returned late, students are responsible for overdue fines. If materials are lost, students are responsible for replacement costs and processing fees.

Overdue fines accrue as follows:

Books - $.25 per day, per item. Maximum of $25.00 per item. 4-day grace period.

Videos - $.25 per day, per item. Maximum $25.00 per item. No grace period.

Audio - $.25 per day, per item. Maximum $25.00 per item. No grace period.

Recalled - $.50 per day, per item for recalled items. Maximum $25.00 per item. 7-day grace period after item is recalled.

Reserve (7-day and 2-day) - $1.00 per day, per item. Maximum $25.00 per item. No grace period.

Reserve (1-hour, 2-hour, and 10-hour) - $.25 per hour. Maximum $25.00 per item. No grace period.

  • After the maximum fine per item has been reached, the student will be billed for the replacement cost of the item plus a $25.00 processing fee.

  • Students with ONE or more overdue item(s) or fines totaling $7.49 which have not been paid within 30 days will be blocked from checking out additional items until the items are returned and the fines are paid.

  • Overdue notices will be sent to students two to four weekdays after material is due. No overdue fines will be assessed if items are returned within four days after the due date. However, on the fifth day, the student must pay the accumulated fines for all five days. Students are responsible for returning materials on time. Failure to receive a notice does not relieve the borrower of responsibility for overdue fines. Delinquent accounts will be referred to the Cashier’s Office.

  • Students can renew items either online, through the Library’s web page, by phone, or at the Access Services desk. Items can only be renewed on or before the due date. Overdue items will have to be returned to the Access Services desk and any fines paid before the item can be renewed. After an item has been renewed once, the item must be returned to the Access Services desk before it can be checked out again. Items that have holds placed for another patron cannot be renewed.

  • Items in circulation for at least seven days may be recalled; the user has seven days in which to return the item before fines begin to accrue.

  • Students who mutilate, vandalize, or steal materials will be responsible for all replacement fees and will be subject to action by the Disciplinary Committee and/or Campus and City Police Departments.

  • Questions about overdue fines or other charges should be discussed with a member of the Access Services staff or the Access Services Supervisor.
