Biology Guidelines

I. Purpose and Program Description

A. Library's Collection Development Objectives

The collection's primary purpose and emphasis is to support studies at the B.S. degree level in Biology. The library also seeks to support Master's degree level coursework in this area. Secondary support is directed to faculty teaching and research and research assistance for library patrons. The interdisciplinary nature of biology requires that students and faculty consult related collections in the library.

B. Curricular Program Description

The Biology major includes options in eight areas of concentration: Biological Science; Microbiology; Molecular Biology; Medical Technology; Laboratory Technology; Pre-Med; Pre-Veterinary Medicine; and Environmental Science. The Biological Science option also provides a subject area degree for secondary education students with a major in Biology.

C. New and Expanding Areas of Interest

1. Environmental Science

2. Environmental Health

3. Biotechnology

D. Areas of Specialization

1. Environmental Health

2. Biotechnology

E. Overlap with Other Academic Disciplines and Library Collections

Nursing, Medical Technology, Physical Sciences, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physical Education.

 II. General Selection Guidelines
