OCLC FirstSearch

OCLC FirstSearch is a suite of databases, including:
  • OCLC WorldCat, the OCLC Online Union Catalog is the world's most comprehensive bibliography, with 37 million bibliographic records representing books in 370 languages and covering information from 4,000 years of knowledge. All of the records for circulating books in the libraries in the Network of Alabama Academic Libraries are included, so students can identify books needed for research and owned in the state.
  • OCLC Union List of Periodicals includes more than 7 million library specific holdings for over 750,000 periodicals in OCLC WorldCat.
  • OCLC ArticleFirst contains bibliographic citations and abstracts that describe items listed on the tables of contents pages of more than 13,000 journals in science, technology, medicine, social science, business, humanities, and popular reading.
  • OCLC ContentsFirst contains the table of contents pages and holdings information from more than 13,000 journals. Most journals are published in English, but other languages are included.
  • OCLC NetFirst is an index to Internet-accessible resources and includes citations to the url, a complete summary description and subject headings. It includes WorldWideWeb pages, interest groups, library catalogs, ftp sites, Internet services, Gopher servers, electronic journals, and newsletters. Records contain location information to connect users to the resources of interest.
  • OCLC PapersFirst provides access to individual papers presented at conferences worldwide. This major research aid covers every congress, symposium, exposition, workshop, and meeting added to The British Library Document Supply Centre's vast proceedings collection since October 1993.
  • OCLC ProceedingsFirst provides tables of contents of papers presented at conferences worldwide. Each record contains a list of papers presented at each conference.
  • GPO Monthly Catalog consists of records for information published by the U. S. Government Printing Office since July 1976. The GPO is the world's largest publisher, and publishes documents for the executive departments, congressional committee reports and hearings, debates, and more.
  • MEDLINE is created by the U. S. National Library of Medicine for medical researchers, practitioners, and medical school faculty and students. It indexes over 3,500 journals (most also have abstracts) in all areas of medicine including clinical medicine, experimental medicine, dentistry, nursing, health services, administration, nutrition, and much more. The backfile begins with 1965, with coverage increasing from 1984 to date.
  • OCLC Electronic Collections Online allows users to search the index to electronic journals - users see citations to articles in journals that are published electronically. All users can search citations to electronic journals, but users in libraries that subscribe to electronic journals can search the actual full text of their library's subscriptions.
